Friends and colleagues have referred to me as a transitions expert. I have weathered several in my life, and hope that there will be many more to come. Born in San Francisco and raised in Marin County, I have attended school and worked in Palm Springs, the Bay Area, Puerto Rico, London, Luxembourg, New York City, Seattle and now Santa Barbara.
Most of my career has been in nonprofit management, serving as Events Manager with WashPIRG, Annual Fund Manager of The Hunger Project, Special Events Manager at Event Associates, Director of Special Events of The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Director of Major Gifts at The Northwest AIDS Foundation, and Executive Director and CEO of The Executive Service Corps of Washington.
After a successful and very satisfying career in the nonprofit sector, I began to look for other outlets to share my experience and skills, all the while hoping to continue on my own learning quest.
During this period of exploration, I was selected to conduct a strategic planning process for The Seattle Baroque Orchestra. I discovered that those many years in the trenches had served me well, providing me with valuable expertise. Additionally I learned that I really enjoyed consulting and found that my many transitions and broad business acumen offered my clients a unique and effective perspective.
While consulting, I began working with a life coach, someone whom a respected colleague had seen and benefited greatly from when he was going through his own transition. I have always gained tremendous insight from batting around ideas, brainstorming, being asked the challenging questions from others. To be accountable to a trained professional without any friend/family/co-worker agenda sounded great, and truly was.
Through this work, as a side benefit, I discovered that I have an aptitude for and great interest in coaching. To that end, I enrolled in a rigorous 8-month training program at The Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara, and graduated as a certified Business and Life Coach.
Though I continue to both consult with and coach staff and board members of nonprofit organizations, I have expanded my work to include a diverse collection of businesses, groups and individuals. I have learned through my own experiences and transitions, and now, through my practice, that the very same conditions that initially create fear and can lead to immobility are those that ultimately move us forward into action, and make us feel vibrant and balanced.
This has been my own journey. I feel privileged that I am now able to share what I have learned along the way and can help others forge their own paths in their transitions.
