Coaching is a professional service that has been in existence for about twenty years. Originating in the business sector it is now being employed by the public. While self regulating, there is a governing organization of which I am a member, The International Coach Federation, www.coachfederation.org, that provides oversight and accreditation of coaches and the profession. Of the now hundreds of coach training organizations world wide, the ICF recognizes and accredits 29, with my program at The Hudson Institute being a part of that group.
The philosophy of coaching has, at its foundation, the fundamental human principles of integrity, accountability, respect and a deep belief in human potential.
Coaching services may be provided to an individual or group, and is a goal-oriented, results-focused professional alliance that identifies and bridges the gap between where the client is now and where he or she wishes to be. As a coach, I:
- Help people discover their goals and then reach them.
- Ask clients to do more than they would have done by themselves.
- Challenge clients to think bigger and realize their full potential.
- Give clients a step-by-step process that empowers them.
- Encourage clients to identify obstructive habits, drop them, and develop new productive behaviors.
- Focus clients on the actions and behaviors that will produce significant results.
- Provide the structure, tools, perspective and partnership to assist clients in accomplishing more in their lives at an accelerated pace.
Benefits and Results:
Throughout the coaching process and at its end, I'll ask you to evaluate how your life is being impacted by our work together, and what changes and benefits you are seeing. Below are selections from previous assessments.
- You helped me take responsibility for my life, and really kept me to it, especially when I wanted to give up. - T.K. Seattle
- I now am sure of my values, and use them to measure my decisions. - F.R. Santa Barbara
- Your encouragement of my career change and all of the steps to get me there was critical to me. - P.B. Seattle
- Finally, I am getting beyond, 'what if I left corporate life,' to really doing it! - E.S. San Francisco
- Our board was so fragile when we started this work with you, to see us all now standing strong and together is a miracle! - R.G. Seattle
As an avid learner, I am continually amazed, delighted and often humbled by the extraordinary courage that my clients show me day after day. These life transitions take discipline, vulnerability, commitment and often tough work. I know this so well from my own evolutions, and now am so grateful to be working with others who are willing to undertake these challenges, and ultimately reap such meaningful rewards.
